Saw the play by International Theater Amsterdam last year and was intrigued by the story. Having finished the book I can see what made the book appealing for the theater-makers. It’s about the role and essence of beauty and the relation of the artist with beauty. It’s a magnificent piece of proza in the illustrious European tradition.
