History lesson of today’s ride: 65% of the population of the German town Kaldenkirchen worked in a cigar producing factory around 1921. The factory was the main employer of the Kaldenkircher population between 1804-1922. In 1922, times were rough due to WWI and closed border with the neutral Netherlands, which lead to the dismantlement of the factory.
